Intake Gasket replacement
Hey guys,
I received a "intake gasket starting to seep" inspection report from a recent stealership visit. I know I've seen it here before but can someone please let me know what an intake gasket replacement job should run me? I am not convinced yet of the diagnosis have to get in there just a whiff of coolant smell. Just in case you are wondering, the stealership quoted me $2100.. Many thanks |
That's steep, if you are handy you can do it for a couple hundred $.

way too much

I take it that this is the valley pan gasket? Upper intake? Where do you see coolant at?
|
If it's the valley pan it shouldn't cost more than $850 or so at an indy mechanic. If the head gaskets are bad it could be around $1,200- 1,800 depending on where you go.

Thanks guys, I haven't seen any coolant yet just a smell of it. When (if) it stops raining on the east coast I will get out there and let the thing get hot and try to see if I can ID the source of smell or leak. It could be a hose clamp for all I know. What I am curious about is whether or not it is a given that these gaskets are going to fail at some point?

My 02 has 123,000 with original everything head gaskets, intake...never been apart. Now my 01 with 90,00 has had head gaskets, lower intake...whole shebang. Keep your fluids fresh and at proper levels I belive is the secret. TC, diffs, brake coolant. Watch them all. Oh and swith away from the dexcool to Peak lifetime.

harbor freight has a preasure tester with the correct adaptor for a Disco 2 for $59.00. I just picked one up this weekend when I was rplacing my head gaskets and timing chain.
