It's that time of year
 

Time for your 6 month preventative maintenance people.
Lube all of your locks, hinges, latches and your door stay roller on the cargo door.
I use silicone spray for the locks, hinges and latches and chain lube for the door stay.

Pop the Land Rover emblem off of the cargo door with your key or a small flat blade screw driver.

Lube the handle and work it.

Then stick the straw into the lock and soak it good, then stick yoiur key in the lock and lock/unlock it half a dozen times or so.

Now it's onto the latch, silicon spray the hell out of it, then close and open the door 2-3 times.

Now it is time for the door stay, you will need to get down on your knees to see what you are doing.
Open the door all the way, spray it with your chain lube and then close/open the door 2-3 times to work in the lube.
Clean up any excess as it will stain your bumper and paint.

Next are your door hinges and door slides, open the door all the way, spray with the silicon spray, close/open the door 2-3 times.

Also open your hood and silicon spray your hood latch and cable, then work the cable a couple of times to work the lube into the cable sheath.

If it moves guy's it needs to be lubed.
For those of you with DI's dont forget your fuel door lock either.
If you live in a dusty area you may need to do this more often.
Most auto manufactures recommend this service twice a year.

With proper care your truck will give decades of trouble free service.

and while you are wandering around with the silicone and the doors are open....spray down the rubber door seals. We seem to get a lot of freezing rain and that seems to keep the doors from freezing shut. I usually do mine but not the wife's rig, he he he he he .

I'll admit to decades of service lol

Had my 98 D1 for 2 years and am very happy at only having to replace pads, oil & filters, steering fluid (on a daily basis!) one ABS sensor, stepper motor and TPS.

Just about to replace my alarm ECU as the truck is currently immobilised but that's my fault!

I really like the fact that in the winter the cops turn back Hummers at the top of the mountain with no chains but wave me through as long as I have chains in the back :)

Well I guess "trouble free" may be a misnomer...less troublesome, how's that?

6100ft in the California mountains near Big Bear. It's true that you can ski and surf the same day as it's only an hour 45 from Santa Monica.

Note, being self-employed I don't risk doing either!
