Has any body come up with a good way to mount them?

Depends on where you want to mount them

I know they make a mount for the spare tire rack that looks sweet though you best get a lock for it else your can and the gas in it will be gone overnight. You could go the extreme route and find a SD rack and mount them up top (which looks awesome btw) but its expensive and impractical if you don't ever plan on using it.

I'm going to mount 2 on my roof rack. A red one for gas, and a blue one for water.

I am still working on how to mount my Jerry can mount to my SD rack, Expedition Exchange has the best Jerry can mount I have yet to find.

That's what I'm going with.

Hm. Well I've thought about building a custom swing for my tire and 2 jerry cans on the back bumper because I know the door cant support all that weight properly. I guess I'm trying to beat around the bush here. And I do plan on getting a roof rack sooner or later but I think mounting the cans properly up there would back it too tall for the mountains with all the trees. We'll see.

I've been in the California woods before so I know they're pretty thick, but I'd be willing to bed you're not going to have too big a problem with putting the cans up there. If you're going with like a Wedco jerry can and the Expedition Exchange mounts, you'll have something pretty stout.

Lay them down on their side, wrap a luggage strap around the outside of them to keep them in place, then another one across the top to hold them down.
