just a question
So. Why do you drive a discovery 2?
|
Because I'm a sadist that enjoys pouring massive amounts of money into keeping a vehicle running.
|
I love the experience of travelling in it. You sit high in the cabin, so you look down out the windows.
It's comfortable and somewhat luxurious without being girly. Love the flat surfaces for putting stuff. Love the look. It's the easiest vehicle I've ever worked on. Which is fortunate. Literally the only thing I don't love about it is its propensity for head gasket failure. Well, and also the gas mileage but that's just part of the deal. |
Because I could take it anywhere.. Except the parking garage downtown.
|
because I could get a 10-year old 80k disco for the same price as a 10-years old 150k corolla.

Originally purchased an off lease full-size Range Rover Supercharged (gone and sorely missed) and feel in love w/ the Land Rover brand. Came across a D2 on craigslist and couldn't pass up the deal, bought it as a daily driver. The rest is history...

I couldn't afford a Rangie when I bought my first disco in 99. So other than gas mileage it's been great to drive, especially in places normal vehicles can't go.
I never lifted my 99 but then I don't deliberately take it offroad and push beyond it limits. But Mexico, Grand Canyon,Colorado AZ and NM provided us with many fun challenges. We were usually alone. No other vehicles so it had to perform. The 04 looks like it has never been offroad. I think it was a mom mobile. 80000 and still looks new. Love driving them don't love doing head gaskets. |
quirk and character, comfortable and capable. considering I passed 5,000 mall crawling jeeps this morning, it is relatively unique as an offroad vehicle, too. oh, and HEADROOM! most of my other vehicles form a dent in the roof, around my 6'6" egg-shaped melon. :)

I've always liked owning the cars/bikes/toys that not everyone else owns. |
