Default Key.....

I bought my Disco 2 in August '18 and the previous owners didn't have any original keys, so I received one copy upon purchase. This week the tip snapped off. I live in Alaska, a State where there are no land rover dealerships, in a small rural town. The local key guy didn't know what to do. I don't have any original paperwork with a key code. Has anyone ever had experience with trying to get a key code cut to specifications without being the original owner or having an original key/paperwork/etc?

I'd also love to get a key code programmed click a button to lock/unlock my doors b/c the locking system is driving me NUTS. I had that I don't have a way once I'm inside the car to lock all the doors at once or unlock them.

Good morning,

You can call a LR dealership with your VIN and they can give you the key code (granted that it still has the original ignition tumbler/ switch, but if the same key unlocks the driver's door and works in the ignition, then it most likely is). If you want a complete key with remote, You can order it, but I think it needs to be programmed to your vehicle through its' security module. I'm not sure that you could order it from LR without having them plug in to your Discos' OBD port to ensure your security module will recognize the replacement remote.

Another option is to buy a scanner tool that can reprogram key remotes. The upside is that you will have a way to talk with your Discos' computer modules for trouble shooting and clearing trouble codes, so with you being in a remote location, maybe a viable option.

I'd think any decent hardware store or locksmith could make a new key for you using the parts you show in the picture. It may take a little trial and error work to replicate the broken-off tip section but it seems doable to me. At least you have all the parts!

you can get a replacement remote at https://remotekey.co.uk/land-rover/l...-1999-to-2006/
you will have to have a plain working key made from the broken one first so that you can start the truck.
once you get the new remote you can program it, then have it cut from the plain key.

the replacement remote works perfectly, and the programming only take a few moments. i used one of these remotes for a couple of years.

Do you not have button 10? This should lock/unlock all doors. I assumed all D2s would have it but can't say personally.

Thanks!!! I did that this morning. The closest dealer to AK is in WA. They required notarized vehicle registration, title, and drivers license before they'll release the key code. So still waiting!!!!!

No dealer's in Alaska. There is one shop which is a 5 hr drive away. They might be able to do it for me. Local locksmith didn't have a blank the right size.

True!!!! I live in a small rural Alaskan town... Local locksmith didn't have the right size blank and needs the key code, which I have to get from a dealer
