Key Lock Broken Disco II won't Start
I have 2001 Disco II. My remote key fob hasn't worked in years, I have always used my key to enter the vehicle. But today my door lock broke while trying to open the door the key just turns 360. I called a lock out service and we got the door open but the alarm sounded and the car won't start because the the computer knows we didn't use the key. I disconnected the battery to kill the alarm and had the vehicle towed home. That was 75.00 for the lock out and 100.00 for the tow and it starts on its way to a 1000.00 for sure!
My question is: Is there any way to trick the computer into thinking that the door was opened with the key so I can start it and drive it to the dealer (avoiding a huge towing bill) for repairs.

If the key turns 360 degrees then the key shaft may have come out of the latch mechanism.
Or the latch mechanism is gone bad.
To fix the problem, you would have to have the door open.
Take apart the door and assure the key cylinder in the door has the
rod going into the latch mechanism correctly.
If that rod comes out, then the key will turn 360.
Why do I know this?
I replaced the latch once and did not put that rod
from the key lock cylinder back into the new latch mechanism.
I had to take the mechanism out and then assure this hex rod was put in.
The rod is shaped like a large allen key.
Of course if you can't get into the truck, this will not help you.

He is already in the truck!
Great answer by the way!
If this will not work for you the other option for you would be since you have the battery disconnected tomorrow in the morning get ahold of Paul Grant and have him sell you a drivers side door handle and key take yours out and replace it with his.... now you will have 2 different keys but you will have this concurred & you can do this with the Rave & Save haha get it? All you pay for is the parts from Paul guaranteed to work!
