I was just going through some old posts and lots of people had lots to say about winching and running dual battery’s yellow top etc. Disco mike was a fan of the dual battery

Dual batteries are a great thing to have especially if often in very remote situations or doing lots of heavy pulls back to back. I plan on running dual batteries sometime this year (have the parts just need to fab a battery tray) but I already have a lot of potential load with air compressor and lights.

Dual batteries are nice. If you plan on winching a lot dual batteries are handy, and so is a higher AMP alternator. I run P38 Bosch 150AMP units in all my D2's and I also run the older P38 GEMS 120AMP units on my D1's as every little bit helps.
I was going to do a dual battery setup, but I got a deal on a really nice jump box. So for me I just stick that in whichever LR I'm in and I'm good to go. I've recovered myself maybe 5 times over the years. I use my winches recovering other people far more often.
If possible I secure my LR to a tree (when recovering a vehicle), use a ****** block, and winch them out slowly and if needed let the battery charge back up and let the winch cool.
No need to be in a race recovering someone as that is usually when someone gets hurt or a cable/line snaps leaving you with a much larger problem.

@SundayFunday - You have any pics of the hidden mount you used to set it up? Did you need to pull parts off the winch and relocate? That is pretty much what I want to do - stay stock, but add the winch. I may get the Terra-Firmer hidden winch kit for the '00 Disco, and am still toying with which winch... and may just sit until a sale pops up.
