light bulbs going out

I own a '99 Discovery 2 w/ 115k miles. One tailight is brighter than the other, same with the headlights. It appears that two bulbs are lit at once per light housingwhile in driving mode. Has one bulb gone out in each of the dimmer light housings? I've noticed this in many Discovery 2's driving around in my area. Bad grounds, poss. design flaw? Are the bulbs easy to replace?

Could be a ground issue, you need to pull the bulbs and look. Also when replacing head lights or tail lights, always replace them in sets so they are the same brightness.

Is it difficult to access the bulbs? Also are there multiple bulbs in each light housing, or just a headlight bulb and parking light bulb? Also is premature light bulb burn out a common problem, poss. a Discovery design flaw?
I did a test last night, turning on my parking lights only. Only one headlight turned on indicating the smaller? parking lightbulb is burned only. I guess the parkinglight bulbsremain on in conj. w/ the main headllights (and taillights)in the full-on mode? The rears both came on but again one was dimmer than the other as described above, so I guess that the taillamps have no parking light only mode like the headlamps. Either that or my wiring is all screwed up.

I know on my D1 the rear are a PITA to change, so I did them all at once. There may be a bulb on it's way out. Sometimes people just replace one at a time, resulting in one side being brighter than the other.

The front one's are really easy. There should be an access panel for the rear.. someone with a D2 should chime in...

anyone w/ a D2 that knows how difficult bulb replacement is for the novice mechanic? Also how many bulbs are there per housing? Can I find all necessary bulbs at Kragens or Autozone? Anyone else witha burnt bulbsissue- I'm just trying to figure out if this is an LR design flaw.

Checked my rave cd for you. seems easy enough..

REAR LIGHT CLUSTER

(Tail, stop & reverse lights)
From outside the vehicle remove the four
retaining screws to release the light unit from
the vehicle, then detach the electrical
multi-plug connector, by pressing the metal
retaining spring.
To gain access to the bulbs, remove the five
screws from the rear of the light unit and
detach the bulb holder. Push and twist to
release each bulb.
