long range fuel tanks
:: The Long Ranger :: Land Rover Discovery
Has anybody modified the fuel system with a long range tank? How do they work? Do they replace your 25 gallon tank with a bigger tank or is it an addition to the existing tank? Has anyone used the tank above? A long range tank is something I just learned about and Im adding it to my mod list for later down the road, perhaps while im getting the chassis repaired or swapped out. |
Why not just get two 5 gallon jerry cans? Seems like a lot less work and money.

yeah you got a rack now, just haul 3 or 4 cans.

X100 don't overthink it simple and cheap is good

I was thinking about doing the same thing on my old 4Runner once. Figured I would need to relocate the spare tire from under the truck. That's as far as I got in my thought before I deemed it too expensive and unnecessary.

Lucky8 has a solution for you Triar. It's not cheap but they have a replacement larger gas tank that you could bolt on. Unfortunately the other popular long distance fuel mod to add an aux tank doesn't work on our lhd disco's. (At least as a bolt on)
If you buy one, let me know how it goes, order time is apparently 4 weeks. I'll be getting one before I do the dalton highway run up to prudhoe bay next spring. It's a 128ltr tank so considerably bigger than stock, but as others have said, carrying jerry cans is considerably cheaper. (I'll be doing both) I think that lucky8 is sourcing their gas tanks from here but I could be wrong. http://www.safari-equip.co.uk/pages/discovery-fuel-tanks/ |
jerry cans! nato cans can be had for 4@ $60-$70.
a 6 ft length of hose cheap rigging to the rack done |
Cans on the rack raise your CG and cause a potential roll-over hazard. On the other hand they are an inexpensive alternative and one that I use myself. I just wish I could put them someplace lower.

Alternatively you could have RTE custom make a double/triple jerry can holder on the rear bumper you're buying from them
