Looking at a 2002 Disco II Se need help
 

Hey everyone, New to this site and looking for help. I'm looking at an 2002 Disco II SE for my Wife. It's going to be driven locally no Off -road by a Football mom. What should I be looking for? I've posted the link to the site below. I know the price is a little high, if anyone could help out I appreciate it!

You should be looking for a van. No kidding, better MPG, more space, cheaper to maintain.

What do you have against your wife?
If you are looking for a reliable daily driver that is not going to leave your wife stranded with a steaming mess on some back highway.... then don't get a Disco.
I you are looking for a divorce... get a Disco ;)

Read the other posts and decide for yourself. Buying a used Disco is a crap shoot.

Nothing against my wife... The Disco is pay back for the 1970 Jag XKE II that I bought and have been restoring for the past 5 years :D.

If you want to go all out.

Have a compression test done.
Radiator pressure test while your at it.
But be prepared to do a headgasket job eventually anyway

Also be prepared to do a deal of maintenance, starting with the 60k maintenance and replacing the driveshaft/ujoints

Thanks, I'm guessing the compression test will tell me if I need to replace the HG or valves. Are there any other major problems with this model year, Or is it a total crap shoot?

That's not a bad price for a SE model from the pic looks taken care of (or very waxed/detailed by a dealer..lol). I like the 18" on it. Ask the dealer for a car fax. Go drive it and do a good visual inspection on it.

The fact you mentioned you have been restoring something is good - you can turn wrenches. So you will be fine with any used car you decide to purchase I would think.
