looking for advice on whether to buy or not

I an thinking about buying a 2003 SE7 Discovery II with 147000 miles on it. Doesn't look too bad from the pictures I'm just worried about the engine. It falls between the cursed vin numbers. I checked the vehicle's service reports and in 2003 it says it was serviced for oil pump failures. Does this mean that they replaced the whole engine or just the oil pump itself?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

It looks nice although I dont care for the 03-04 as much. I personally would not go over $3,500 for it assuming it has had HG redone. It has been for sale a long time as I have seen that ad myself.

On the coast or in Colorado it is probably worth 4500. In the middle of corn country I would say it is too much money.

They salt the hell out of the roads in Omaha. Look underneath it.

Everybody says this, but in Saint Louis Discoverys are consistently going for higher amounts. '03's and '04's are going for $5,000.00 and higher.

On the engine bay frame, there should be a metal green sticker with the service date so you can tell if it has gone through the LR service campaign. Also, its well over the milage when those trucks supposed to fail.

In the stock market there is something called "The greater fool theory" meaning you will be OK as long as there is someone willing to bail you out of a bad deal. At 150k miles that truck is just a cracked block away from being a boat anchor. You gotta factor in the risk even if it looks like a peach.

The first one I bought was in Omaha. Had a totally rebuilt motor. The guy asked for $7,500. I got it for $3,200. I was not the greater fool.

agreed

You can get them for about $2500 pretty easily. There is nothing exceptional about this vehicle, perhaps broaden your search to other states, ebay, etc.

I have had very good luck on ebay. Even if it is not 100%, odd are you saved more than enough money to fix it.

I had a 92 Nissan Pathfinder SE-V6 before I got my 01 Disco back in 2011. The Pathfinder was a way better vehicle and I think it even was better off-road. If you have your heart seat on a Land Rove, then I'd look for a low mileage unit, but I'd rather have a 95-97 Toyota Land Cruiser or a newer Nissan Xterra.

I had a 91 Pathfinder. Bought it new and put 300,000 miles on it with little trouble. Sold it last year for $1500. Best car I ever had.
