Looking to replace rear door subwoofers
I have the harman kardon system and the subwoofers in the back started cracking around the molding so they made this terrible noise when I turned the radio up...I replaced them with the same stock subs but realized roverlandparts.com sent me Philips instead of harman kardon so it just doesn't sound like anything is really coming from them cause ive told they have to be the HK. I can't any HK replacements online theyre all Philips or another brand so just wondering if theres anything I can replace these with online from like crutchfield or something I know they're shallow mount and 6-3/4" but just need a good brand to get that little kick back...I know this has been done before just need some advice...thanks!!

My 04 has Phillips subs in it and they don't make any sound at all. You can barely feel them moving whenyou touch them, so I've been wondering the same thing. I've seen before where someone has used the 6 3/4 kicker subs and said they worked well but even better after putting an aftermarket amp on them. I'm wanting to give them a shot but the idea of needing to add another amp to them is the only thing giving me second thoughts.

Sad to say Disco Fever is correct. The magnet is much larger on the HK set up. I left it unplugged until I upgrade system or replace it.

The pyramid WX65X are a close fit. You need to tweak the opening a little bit. There are some threads on andother LR forum about them. Here is some additional info:
As expected, the Pyramid WX65X subwoofers fitted the enclosure perfectly, so mounting them in the black plastic Land Rover frame was a complete doddle. Even the screw holes lined up perfectly. Unfortunately, the magnet structures on the Pyramids are a little wider in diameter, and although they fit through the cutout in the tail door, I could not get the frame to align with the screw holes due to interference with the sheet metal. This required me to modify the cutout slightly, relieving it in a couple of places to gain the necessary clearance. That's a euphemistic way of saying that I had to take a hammer and roll the edges of the cutout in a bit in two places to allow the frame to align with the screw holes. I'm not proud of taking a beater to my tail door, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do in order to get the job done. In any case, the modification to the door and the trim panel are totally hidden by the speaker enclosure and the installation looks 100% stock. |

One thing I hate the most is the crappy stereo in the Disco (of course, this is coming from the 13 speakers system in a RRS) I do lots of road trips in the Disco, would be nice to do a little upgrade. I like keeping the factory head unit, but something in the speaker/amp department might be in order. |

Also would like to upgrade the rear door speakers... the highs sound fine, but the car has no bass whatsoever.
I'm over the "subs" phase and really just looking for something to fit in the OEM location and sound good. I dont need vibration and the "womp womp" sound. |
