Default Loud Clunk Noise

I am getting ready to do a headset change as you may know from a different post but I also wanted to get some advice on a noise from underneath while driving... Ok, while driving, if you let off the gas and then rapidly step back onto the gas there is a "best discribed" loud clunk sound... I have read where that could possibly be the transfer gearbox... any thaughts...??? I have a 2003 Disco SE

If you have no u-joint issues, and you have replaced the 2 bad ones in the double cardon, lubed the u-joints once or twice a year and your rotoflec is not cracked, then you have the normal Rover clunk. You can't get off the gas and then hit it againg with out this noise happening based on Rovers drive line design.

I wouldn't, your truck maybe trying to tell you something. Check the front u-joints, make sure all 3 have grease fittings, if not get them replaced before you loose your tranny also.

DiscoMike, My friend that has an 01 d2 just had his driveshafts out to the local dealer for the grease"able" u-joints to be installed and Yes, come to think of it, he did verify mine were grease"able". So you should grease them up to 2 times a year...? I have been told to be careful not to over grease them...is this true on these machines...? We just did the 60k inspection on mine and Tranny is very clean and shifts very smoothly

FYI...I had someone look at my u-joints and claim they were serviceable because they saw a zerk on one of them. I figured I change them out anyway to be safe...but put it off (bad me!).

Turned out that I almost lost my driveline...caught it just in time. This person was wrong because they didn't check the double cardon. Luckily I got a warning...it started to squeak something fierce (sounded like a bird chirping).

Got it done and the chirp went away.
Man I came close!!!

The dealer will only replace the ujoints with Rover joints which are non greasable.
If the mechanic is wrong it will cost you, NOT him $7,000 for a new transmission.
Do yourself a favor and check for yourself. And then grease them at every oil change, you cannot over grease, the extra will "squeeze" out.
