LR Disco Starts up on 2nd or 3rd try
I have a 2002 Land Rover Discovery with only 60k miles and it wont crank until the 2nd or 3rd try. This happens in morning and after cooling down for an hour or more. I have not tuned up yet. Does these vehicles have a fuel filter?
Whats your diagnosis. THANK YOU! |
Yes, but it is part of the fuel pump assembly inside the tank. When you turn the key to the run (not crank) position, the fuel pump should come on for a few seconds and build up pressure. Then, because engine is not turning, the computer turns it off. You should be able to hear the pump run, then shut down. As a work around, you might try turn key on, wait a few seconds, then turn off, then back on, a one second pause, then crank.
Also as a new owner you should look at the 60K mile service list in our tech area, and the front drive shaft needs to be replaced if it has not been rebuilt. The factory model has some sealed double joints, and will fail with almost no warning. When that happens it can poke a hole in your transmission, which is about $7,000 at the dealership. About $100 to rebuild yourself. Also take advantage of the RAVE, which is the factory set of shop and owner manuals. Free download below. |
Do the cheap stuff first, install new plugs and a set of 8 mm silicone wires like Magnecor or STI, run a can of 44K thru the tank and replace your air filter.
By the way what octane gas are you burning? |
Thanks guys I am going to do tune up today and I run premium gas
|
Where are you buying your new plug wires, parts stores don't carry 8 mm silicone and their cheap one's won't hold up.
Also, your 02 has SAI and replacing the plug wires is a good 3 hour job, may want some help. |
Help Help Help LR wont start
I was driving on freeway and the disco started loosing power it dropped from 70 to maybe 40 in seconds. So I pulled over and took off again after couple minutes and it sped back but was bogged down and had sluggish take off. So I got my injectors cleaned and after about 3 miles the service engine light came on. Took to advance and they read it and said it was ban 1 and ban 2 referencing a loose vaccuum line then the truck wouldn't start. What in the world is going on.

hey... do you check the throttle body? when is dirty the engine starts til the 2nd or 3rd times... or you need to push a little the gas pedal to start it...that happens with all the engines no matter what brand...
