LR Discovery 2003 Catalytic Converter rattles

I've been reading some posts but would like to know if anyone could help me with a solution/repair other than replacing the CAT that rattles because I cannot afford to replace it at the moment and the noise isn't that bad (yet!)

What would be the consequences of not fixing the problem with the replacement? Only 52,000 miles on it. I live in CAlifornia.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated! Thank YOU!!

If you find a universal one that is CARB approved and the proper size there is no problem with welding in a replacement.

Contact your local dealer, per your extended Federal/State warranty, you may still be able to replace it under warranty.

Mike has a very good point. Some warranties are 10 years on cats. You definitely want to check that first. Free is always best.

Worse case scenario you drive with a rattle under your feet.

DarylJ, Disco Mike, Spike555: THANK YOU ALL SOOOOO MUCH!

I'll definitely try the dealer. I was just afraid they would give me the run around because the manual says 7 years or 70,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Mike, could you please be specific about the State/Federal extension (is it another number of years or miles?)

Thanks again guys, you are indeed invaluable!

Each State has different terms, some go to 8 years or 80,000. If not go buy and aftermarket cat and have it installed at a local muffler shop.

This just came up somewhere else and someone found http://www.epa.gov/oms/consumer/warr95fs.txt.

Looks like 8/80 is a federal minimum.

Thanks again guys! You are AWESOME!

I believe now I have everything I need. I would assume that the dealer would be interested in replacing the part (CAT) since they get paid by LRNA to correct the problem, right? Let's hope so!

Happy Father's Day! :)
