lube questions
I remember reading on here some time ago about rotella 15w40 motor oil....and a wix filter. Is this the right stuff to buy for houston tx climate. I just want to confirm before i change it. seems i remember alot of good comments about this oil and a wix filter. just wanna make sure its 15w40. and what the filter number was. 2003 disco

yes 15w40 is correct, you can also try the 5w40 synthetic. Wix filter is 1515 (or 51515 forget which), that is the larger filter.
|
For TX you can use the 15w-40 year round.
|
You can also use the Mobil 1 301 oil filter, it is longer than the regular one.

Thanks in advance |
Went to 15w40 Rotella in both our Disco's and like it. In Texas good year round and great cleaning qualities.

Any recommendations for Kentucky? It generally doesn't get below 0 here, though it might once or twice. Am also concerned about MPG... is 15w going to slow it down too much?
|
I did not notice any loss of MPG at all with 15w40. Now I did when I switched to 75w140 synthetic gear oil in transfer case and diffs.

15w40 is fine for temps above 32F. Under 32F you will start getting some unhappy valvetrain noises. Personally I like using synthetic 5w40 as it is only $15 more an oil change but I live in Buffalo so there is no way I would use 15w40 in the winter.
