M S XYZ Advice needed

03 DII - Issue when switching from reverse to drive: M S would flash, no CEL, stuck in limp (stuck in single gear), no codes. My typical day would start reversing out of the parking spot, put it in drive, (M S starts flashing), pull up to the street, put in park, clear the check engine, then put it in drive and be perfectly fine until I needed reverse again.

I removed the XYZ, cleaned it, riveted it back together, mounted back. I set the transmission gear selector and gear shift selector both in park and connected the shift cable. Wife ran through the gears and they seemed to line up perfectly.

I continue have the same issue, but NOW every time going to drive triggers the flashing M S no CEL. I can't get past it like before.

Anyone have experience to share or thoughts on the next step to diagnose? Can I test the connections at the ECU?

What CEL codes were u getting?

My rebuild of the xyz didn’t take so I ended up getting a good used one off eBay. Mine may have been too far gone it was really corroded inside,or maybe I just did not get it reassembled perfectly.

Dumb question: have you checked trans fluid level? Have you changed the filter recently?

This info would definitely help us.

Check your battery.
Check for proper voltage.
Make sure the battery wiring and connections are tight, in good condition and not corroded.

There are 14 different transmission faults that can trigger the M&S lights and the Three Amigos, and the XYZ switch is only one of them. Sounds like it may be something else causing the problem. I recommend getting the trans codes read. Let us know what you find out.
