Default Matte black hood vinyl overlay

My friend got this idea from seeing other rovers online with this done, so he asked me to see if I could do it on his truck. I decided to give it a shot, and see how hard it'd be to do. This is the only picture I took of it, and it was kind of dark. However, I am just curious if it was worth making a template of this and make duplicates.

I'm down...if it is cost effective.

Where are you located?

They sell for about $80 at the higher markup places:

LAND ROVER PARTS - DECAL HOOD BLACKOUT KIT DISCOVERY II

If the car has damaged paint like the one in the photo, it makes more sense to mask it and spray flat black paint (cost is < $7). Vinyl is better if you want to keep the clearcoat on a newer vehicle more or less intact underneath it, although the type of adhesive used would determine whether or not the decal could be removed without damaging the paint underneath.

Also, the function of it is to reduce glare in the driver's eyes -- from the sun and from roof-rack mounted lights. It's even more important on light colored hoods. The vinyl you used still has quite a bit of glare from the overhead flourescent lights. Try to use a really flat/matte vinyl. Your cuts look clean though, very nice.

I am in Orange County, but if I were to make templates, it'd be fairly easy to install. My material should also not discolor/fade like the one in the link. I had that test piece on my friend's car for about a year.

I went with the can myself. It makes more sense. Also, it's repairable. I've already scratched it up driving through a narrow trail with overhanging tree branches. After a while, I'll just scuff out the deeper scratches with sandpaper and re-spray. With vinyl, an expensive sticker would have to all come off and a new one go on.
