Misfire codes, Tune up Help/advice needed
I have misfire codes for cyl 3,5 and 7. Plugs 5 and 7 wet with oil/blowback.
My indie mech is doing a compression test now. I have the tick when warmed up at idle but disappears when rpm increases. My oil pressure #'s are good, checked them a couple mnth's ago when diagnosing the tick. I replaced the lifters so my mechanic is wondering about valve adjustment. I told him I don't think there is any adjustment. He replaced plugs 5 and 7 but codes returned. He is going to check fire. The wires need to be replaced, I have not done it because I thought it was going to blow up. I will change the wires to 8mm asap. Any sugestions? Thanks in advance. Lifters are self adjusting. Misfires can be Bad wires bad plugs Bad coil valves sticking If you have oil in the cylinders, then you may have needed to change the oil more often? Is there blow by in the cylinders? If the rocker arms under the valve covers looked really dirty and crusty then I am wondering if your valves are sticking now and again? |
Get a good set of 8 mm silicon wire, like STI or Magnecor and that will fix it.

No, changed it a month before I swapped out the lifters,and changed it then as well. Is there blow by in the cylinders? Not sure, that is why he was asking about valve adjustment. I was very surprised how clean everything was inside when I opened it up. With 130k on it I was expecting alot of gunk and crustiness but it was super clean. Answers above |
Just finished installing new wires and will go for a test drive.

IF your mechanic does not know that land rover valves on the gas engines are not adjustable, then you need a new mechanic.
Obviously this mechanic does not work on land rovers very much |

Obviously this mechanic does not work on land rovers very much He knew I changed the lifters and was asking if the rockers needed shimed, that's all. |
If you changed the lifters without changing the cam, you are do for more issues soon. With a Rover engine, the cam is too soft and unless you change both at the same time, the cam will eat up the new lifters.

Oh, the test drive went very well. Lot more power and idleing much smoother. Except for famous hammering under there. |
