Misfire in cylinders
 

I have a 99 land rover discovery series 2. My computer that I hook up to it says that I am having misfires in cylinder 8, 4, 6 and 2. Its shaky too when we drive. My husband and I just replaced the ignition coil in it last weekend. anyone know what could be causing this to happen

I had a misfire on number 2 and "general misfire" codes and my D2 was running like crap. I had an "o2 sensor not communicating with computer" code for a bit also. I replaced both coil packs and all is well. If one coil pack is bad, I was told you might as well replace both assuming they were installed at the same time.

What you are describing has been mentioned many times before, it is not a plug, wire or coil issue.
I have asked everyone who has had this problem to let us know what they have found with theirs and no one has ever replied back.

I would also like to know what might be causing this misfire as my 99 Disco 2 just developed a similar issue.

I had the parts monkey scan it at the local parts store and he spouted off several specific cylinder misfires as well as random misfires.

He also mentioned one that said ignition timing adjustment fault or malfunction or something like that.

It runs rough sometime and the real smooth other times.

The plugs and wires on mine are old as hell but I don't think in my 20 years of working on cars that I have ever seen a single case where a misfire was nothing more than plugs and/or wires.
However I have seen coil packs cause issues.

Mine needs new plugs and wires so I am going to get them anyway but I think I may start with new coil packs and then maybe take a look at the cam position sensor.
I just repaired the front cover gasket on my ride and dunked the front cover with cam sensor in de-greaser then blasted it with brake parts cleaner.
I could have done some damage.

I will be certain to let everyone know what is up the moment it's fixed.

Those are all even numbers.
So, the problem is on the passenger's side.
Make sure the air injection tube is not broken for the SAI.
That is probably what it is.

You probably hear an exhaust noise from the passenger's side and have just ignored it.

I would also replace the O2 sensor on the passenger's side.
It is probably sending out bad data and causing a bad fuel mix into those cylinders.

Replacing the O2 is $70 if you DIY.

Get a scanning code reader on there and let us know if the O2 sensor on bank 2 front is responding.

Will go 0 to 1 volt up and down.

The cam position sensor (front of engine) has a fall back data and the engine will run without it plugged in.

It won't be 02's if he has no 171 or 172 codes.
If the cam sensor fails, your timing will go to a pre-established timing and it will not effect just one bank.
I once hear where if you were in limp mode that this might happen but have never been able to verify that.
