Moderator Approval: Transponder Key Solution

Been a while since I've had to post, but here's something new I learned. I came across an easy, no modifications required method to be able to have back-up keys without paying dealer prices or need to have fobs programmed. I will not, however post method until I get a "go" from a moderator, as I do not wish to be banned from site. The method "bypasses" transponder match, without disrupting normal transponder coil function. Using it I was able to make two sets of keys by simply having them cut like any normal old car. Total cost for two keys: $14:cool:, your mileage may vary depending solely on cost to have keys cut. Will post details once given a green light.

What are you doing, buying Ilco RV-4 keys and taking them to the hardware store to be cut or are you actually programming new remotes? Your post is way too cryptic.

Ebay blank key and FOB cover. No programing required. So I guess similar to cut Ilco RV-4! Would also definitely work with my method. Details after moderator approval.

I have a couple of dozen Rover key blanks in front of me. I don't have to search for them on eBay. Are you saying that you are able to program the remotes without testbook, novacom or hawkeye?

prroverguy 08-20-2014 05:57 PM

You don't need to program remotes, as far as what I did, I have one key with remote (original, only key I had until today), one key without remote. Both will open doors, start car no problem. No fancy gadget equipment necessary, just cut keys.

This is not something you need the moderators approval for posting. All you're going is cutting a blade and installing it in a non working remote fob. Am I understanding you correctly?

prroverguy 08-20-2014 06:01 PM

Yes, but since it is technically bypassing the transponder's designed security feature, I thought I should ask for approval before posting

All you're doing is making a copy of a key. I've been selling Ilco RV-4P key blanks to customers for years. All you're doing is adding a pretend remote fob that doesn't do anything at all. Frankly, I don't get how this could be a threat to the security of all of our DII's.

prroverguy 08-20-2014 06:07 PM

True, I just re-tested and Disco 2's don't have transponder security...Nevermind!!

Wow, that was 20 minutes of my life I'd like back.
