The moment of truth...
2001 disco motor replacement due to cracked sleeve. Purchased salvage motor, posed a few questions here (thank you all by the way) and tonight was the night... everything plugged in and all clamps tight... connected the battery and... wait for it.... wait for it..... it started.
The problem. It runs very rough. Yes I check and double checked the spark plug wires, but it still sounds as though it needs timed or one of the cylinders is not firing correctly. any ideas? 2001 DII 120K 1992 BMW 213K 2008 Acura TSX 32K 1975 MG Midget 65K |
In no particular order -
Codes? Data reading scanner shows ignition advance changing under load, etc.? Vac leak Fuel Pressure regulator VSS disconnected / bad (while underway) Coil(s) plugs and wires injector not working on one or more cylinders (assumes you did not change injectors of donor motor) But compared to what you just accomplished, this should be a cake walk. |
Codes would be a big thing. If its not firing right then it should let you know right away. Otherwise it could be one of many things listed above....

Ok,
Any insight on purchasing a code scanner? It doesn't run well enough to try to make it to a local shop... nobody rents one. Help is appreciated. The dang thing starts (running on several cylindars), and the problem is NOT the wiring from coil to plugs... I checked and re-checked several times. Thanks. Sam |
Go to Wal-Mart, they sell a nice scanner for about $80.
AutoZone sells a cheap one for around $30. |
Did you double check all the electrical plugs? I ask because I forgot to plug in the plug behind the intake and it ran like crap after I did my heads.

I've got the codes...
Thanks for all your help. Here are the codes (please translate into: "Do this" for me...)
P1590 p1300 p0305 p0307 p1319 p0560 p1536 p1668 It looks like a lot... I hope that several quick fixes take care of all of them... Thanks again, Sam |
1590 - IACV
1300 - random misfire 0305 - misfire #5 cylinder 0307 - misfire #7 cylinder (wires swapped?) 1319 ? 0560 - battery volts low 1536 ? 1668 - immobilizer issue (I bet oringinal alarm is really pissed off because somebody stole the whole damn engine !) |
|
Have seen another reference that 0560 is too many codes in memeory, reset codes to clear.; 1319 is misfire with low fuel; 1536 is AC clutch related. So start with plugs 5 & 7 wiring check, check battery volts just to be sure. Clear and start again. That immobilizer code could be a wire unplugged fom a module.
