Oh, those would have been nice... but guess what...
I GOT THEM. **** YEAH!!!
Most murderous thing I've done on the rover yet. Absolutely dreading putting these back.
This combo finally did the trick:
OK so I've pulled 10 bolts, and I see the top two left. However rave seems to say that there are 12 bolts PLUS the two top ones. I sure as heck don't see any more bolts.

The top bell housing bolts are a real PITA. When I removed mine I supported the engine and transmission with a jack and some pieces of wood, disconnected the motor mounts from the chassis and engine and removed them completely. Then I lowered the jack about 4"-6" and the entire engine and transmission came down and away from the firewall. A lot easier to work up in there and remove the top bolts with the extra room.

Thanks for the tip - yeah I haven't even tried touching those top two yet because RAVE says to drop the engine as you've said. A flex-head ratcheting box wrench might work on them though, but I don't have one.
I don't have a lift so will be renting next week sometime - $30 for a day. Looking forward to starting the rebuild. I'm a little bummed out right now by the quality of some parts I'm buying - particular Allmakes rocker arms - they're very deformed and steel, not aluminum. Probably the worst thing is to spend money on aftermarket parts to replace your worn genuine parts --- but the aftermarkets are even more out of spec!! I think I like britpart the best. The lifters I received from Lucky8 look good
