SALTL16433A811559

Above is the VIN sent to me in a text, please note that I have not confirmed this to be the actual ID but I will trust the sellers honesty. So is this 2003 Discovery with 117k, within the range for the engine issues?

TECHNICAL ALERT
March 14, 2003 TA03 1201

2003 Discovery Series II Oil Pump Failures
Vehicles Affected
Discovery Series II (LT) 3A771801 to 3A808362

Situation
Oil pump failures on 2003 Discovery Series II vehicles may be the result of a
manufacturing error. Locating dowel pins may be slightly misaligned permitting
assembly of the oil pump to the engine block, but placing stress on the pump housing
which can ultimately lead to leakage or failure.

Resolution
Whenever an oil pump failure is encountered on vehicles within the above VIN range
the only effective repair currently available is replacement of the complete engine
assembly including the front cover/oil pump manufactured to the latest tolerances.
Use the following components to affect a repair:
LBB112301 4.6 Engine assembly LEV
LBB111461 4.6 Engine assembly NON-LEV"

There is alot of talk about dodgie oil pumps on here but they were all repaced under the above recall, if they were not then they would have expired by now. I own a disco in the range and a lot of us on the site do and drive it every day

F@#k Yeah!!!! What a huge relief - though to be honest with everyone, even if it was within range I'd still chance buying it! Thanks all. I know I should have looked it up myself using the search option, but I've been at work all day and using the search engine on the forum takes patience when your using a iPhone while at work! I just wanted a quick yes or no.

Well if all goes well with me and the seller then I'll be adding a 2003 Discovery S to my signature, and joining the Discovery 2 section! Hope to see all of you there - wish me luck!
