Default New to Discos with a few questions ...

Hi,
These questions have probably been asked a million times, but other newbies like myself probably have the same queries also.

Anyway, i have a '99 Discovery II in V8 petrol with 135000 km on the clock and it's in pretty good nick except for a couple of ****ling issues. Issue No. 1 - keys - I have 2 keys with the remote locking but one doesn't lock and the other doesn't open - the rubber pads have disintegrated in both cases with the microswitch underneath breaking. Are these things expensive to replace ( i live in Australia)and can I just use the key instead of the remote and not activate the alarm etc.

What is the best workshop manual to buy for these beasts?

I notice that there are bolts and a connector for a CD changer under the front seat - are these std fittings and do I just go to the nearest Hi-Fi store and buy a Cd stacker or do I have to go genuine parts?

The cruise control doesn't work but from reading the posts I gather this is common and is related to the vacuum tubes. The horn doesn't work either (well the alarm bit works!!) - in New South Wales there is a 3 month warranty on used cars - so as much as it pains me to let ham fisted mechanics fiddle with things, I will just have to take it back to the place I bought it from. All the fuses seem ok.

cheers

Andrew

easy fix on the vacuum tubes, pretty cheap too. Just replaced one of mine for $0.33. The key should set the alarm, lock, unlock, do it all regardless of the remote. I just purchades a Rave manual on CD and it has been pretty helpful, pics, zoom in and out etc.. Pretty thorough also. Sevral websites for the cd changer I would try to stick to the OEM , www.roverconnection.com has a pretty extensive list including a changer.
