Question New guy to the site need some help with a coil job on a D2

Lets start by saying hello.

I have just become a rover fan well I have always been a fan but just purchased 2 D2's one a 2000 and a 2001.

I had some random misfire codes and a bit of rough idle so I replaced plugs, wires, coils, and, plenum gasket.

I do have many years of wrenching under my belt and have tackled some pretty monster rebuilds on porches and bmw so I'm not shy when comes getting in there.

I figured this was pretty strait forward job but after I put it back together she spit and sputtered a little and then nothing. cranks but won't start.

I rechecked the work twice even went back to the old coils. checked all the work over and over. nothing is out of place.

I must be missing something.

Is there something i didn't reset?

I did check all fuses and relays. I can hear the fuel pump prime up. I cleared the ECU of any codes with my scanner.

Any help at all I would be greatful. I just got the plates but its moving what a bummer.

Oh this is the 2000 but I don't think that matters.

Hello and welcome to forums.

Other than telling you double and triple check you have wires routed correctly, I would say try resetting the inertia switch (it's located on the passenger side firewall). Maybe, it accidentally got tripped. I've seen crazier things.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I just pulled a plug and looked for spark I have none.

Any thoughts?

How do the coils ground? is it the bracket or in the harness?

I also swapped out the MAF with a known good one from my 2001 d2.

I also checked the inertia switch to the point of jumping it to rule it out.

Well you definitely seem to have a handle on it. I don't know 100% but I would assume from the battery the power travels to the coil and then down the wire to the plug. Maybe like you said it's not grounded properly to the bracket.

So new update I just swapped the computer between the 2000 and 2001 both the same model number no luck they both work in the 2001.

I'm going to try the CPS but I don't see how that could be a problem. I didn't even touch it.

Would I get any spark if it was going or gone bad?

Don't know luckily I ain't never had the problem of not being able to crank. It's worth a shot that way you can eliminate that as a cause as well. Are you not getting spark at all have you checked more than 1 wire?

I just found a connection near the driver side 02 sensor it connects to a sub harness that goes to the coils that had become disconnected. plugged it in now it runs like a top..
