New to the Land Rover Scene. Help!
I am in the market to buy a Land Rover as a second car, a 2000 Discovery II with the 4.0L V8, I wanted to know people's honest opinions on the car and any warnings, tips, and knowledge that you may have. It has 80k miles on it, I test drove it and it seems to be running well. Please give me some advice! Thanks

I live in Idaho and put about 300 miles on it a week for work and 600 on the weekend's for the past 5 weekend's driving up north fishing and tracking! I have street tires on it and the 03 doesnt have CDL but I still get up thos steep muddy hills and through some stuff that makes me sweat! RE: New to the Land Rover Scene. Help!
Thanks!
A few specific questions you may be able to help me with: -What kind of average gas mileage do you get? (in MPG) -What are your maintenance costs? -Are there any brand specific companies who I could contract to inspect the car for problems or faults before I buy? -And how well does a stock discovery handle on snow and ice? Once again thanks for the help, it will help me a lot in my buying decision. |
RE: New to the Land Rover Scene. Help!
You MUST use premium gas, 12-14mpg in town and 16-18 on the expressway.

You MUST have the front driveshaft rebuilt ASAP. Search for "doomed" on this forum.

RE: New to the Land Rover Scene. Help!
I might add that the car would be used to tow a sail boat, drive in the chicago winters, and to tow a racing trailer

Max, I recently purchased a '99 DII with 74K miles. Driveshaft rebuilt is going to cost you about $200 with you pulling and installing in vehicle. How much weight will you be pulling? I bought mine to pull my Jeep but a lot of people advise against heavy loads.
