Default New (to me) Discovery II with issues

Hello all,

First of all, you guys have been a huge help in this process. I recently bought a 2002 Discovery II with 95k miles after lurking the forums and finding the common issues I should look for. The one I found does NOT have air suspension, nor ACE. The driveshaft has been rebuilt with greaseable u-joints, and there seem to be very few issues overall.

However, I have a recurring SES light that comes back if I drive over 50 miles without letting the truck cool down. Code is P0171. I also have been getting a P1790 code, but no 3 amigos as of yet. I have tried to use the HDC, and no matter what conditions I turn it on, it gives me 3 dings (I'm not sure what this means) which I assume is related to the P1790.

Also when I bought it, there was a burnt out fog light, which I assumed would be an easy bulb swap, but the base of the bulb was fused to the connector. I'm not willing to buy a whole new assembly, and I can't find a socket that I can wire into the existing harness.

But, I've started on the major service recommended by Disco Mike. Done the engine flush and oil change, replaced the transmission fluid and filter, replaced the serpentine belt (holy carp, quite the routing on that one). Next up, diff and t-case oil, and the coolant. Brakes were recently done, my mechanic that inspected it said the brake fluid was brand new.

tl;dr - Please help me with p1790 and p0171 codes (I'm assuming the p0171 is a MAF sensor). And direct me somewhere I can find a connector for a H1 bulb. Also, what am I forgetting that should be a high-priority service item for this truck?

edit: I also am having issues with the passenger side window. It sometimes goes down about a half-inch and then rotates a few degrees to the front of the truck and stops. Thinking a bad regulator but I'm not 100% sure.

Welcome to the club. Most important thing, kind of what an old sage told me about surfing, the best surfer in the water is the guy/gal having the most fun. go have some fun in your new truck! Sounds like you are off to a good start. The Hill Descent, will only work when you have the transfer case in low, as I recall, please chime in if that is not correct. Good luck. Phil

That is correct Phil. 3 dings if HDC is selected in high range

I have tried activating the HDC in both low and high range. Could it be a bad low range sensor (don't know what this is actually called)?

HDC works with the transfer case in low gear, transmission in 2nd or 1st gear. Any other setting will give you the 3 chime sound.

Remember, with hdc you cannot touch the brake, once you do you over ride the system. Also, you have to be going slow. It is for controlled descent off road, not for cruise control down a long hill, I don't know why you would be near 3 rd gear.
