Glad you got her back on the road. Weird that this all happen after the water pump job.

But, oh well...she sure looks happy now. Great looking rig!

I bet that was for the whole cover with oil pump. That wouldn't be part of the compression issue but is good preventative for sure.

I'm glad you got it sorted out

Sure would have been nice if the shop could have supplied you with pictures. I've been a mechanic for 39 years and never seen a broken timing chain. Seen hundreds of worn, sloppy or barely let the engine run...but never a broken chain (belts, several).

Anyhow...this just keeps bugging me...the not knowing what caused the issue. Engines don't normally need a water pump, running when they go into the repair...and come out with a broken chain.

Hopefully...I can sleep tonight not knowing...lol.

Brian.

Those guys at the last repair shop in Garwood really did a great job in my opinion. Im not really sure what happened to begin with or some stuff are related but this time the truck drives very smooth. Initially, I had problems also with shifting to R and D which I thought was the xyz switch, now it sits properly on every shift. Also, the truck runs great even before but it sounded like a tank and that sound disappeared. Im confused, but cant complain. He even told me to come back if I see engine codes that might pop up with in few days. cheers!

Sorry to hear of your D2 woes and the horrendous costs to you. IMO the mechanics could have established a broken timing chain far sooner if they had known what they were doing and cranked the engine and looked into the timing cover via the oil filler hole or even taken one rocker cover off. It is evident something was seriously wrong as if all the piston rings were broken (highly unlikely) there would still register some cylinder pressure albeit very small. It does sound like you have been real unlucky with this problem and unfortunately picked up the bill for it. Hope all goes well from hereon.

...my bad, I guess I focused just on the "immobilized" issue after doing a repair, for which this "hack" helped me. I now see that his main prob was different, Oops! ;-]#
