No start and the Green Transmission Lights are Flashing
 

99 DISCO II, 214,000 miles
She's running fine one day and won't start the next. The two green transmission lights at the bottom of the instrument panel are flashing and the operating manual says - electrical fault in automatic transmission - see dealer NOW.

WTH?

Trying to avoid a large towing charge to the dealer if possible, but no one within 50 miles has a LR code reader.

Any suggestions or recommendations aside from setting it on fire?

If the M & S lights are on, and check engine light is NOT, then the shop manual says that is tranny senses battery volts at 9 volts. Would suggest you check charge of battery, loose cables on battery, loose cable from (-) battery lead to frame or chassis. By the way, when doing all this, be sure to depress the hood alarm switch, so if you jump off truck it won't wake up and think a thief has control and immobilize the engine.

Any OBD2 code reader will work for this, you only need a special code reader for ABS related issues.

Since you appear new, don't go to a dealer, ever, for service. Find an independent Land Rover specialist, not a "foreign" car shop.

Dealers and "foreign" car shops see LR owners as a wide open walking wallet with an unlimited Visa Platinum card.

A note of thanks to those who responded with super information ... just an update, the real problem turned out to be either mice or rabbits ... the entire wire harness out of the fuse carrier was chewed to bits ... since this damage is covered by my insurance, it's off to the dealer ... don't really mind them soaking the insurance co.

I would go with setting it on fire. :cool:

I spent a day this week fixing squirrel gnawed wires on the ignition for my John Deere riding mower, and got the grass cut for first time of the season. Just glad I didn't have to buy a $300 module....

@jfall - I park in my driveway ... with the 2" lift and a roof rack, she's too tall for the garage. We live in a quasi-rural area so wildlife and critters are the norm and not the exception. I keep D-Con in the truck, so you're probably right that it was either squirrels or rabbits ... the nest was pretty big. I'm getting a ration of crap from the wife because I didn't notice it sooner.
@Savannah Buzz - Damn rodents may be cute, but they do cause considerable damage...I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop, God only knows what 'other' electrical damage the rodent damage may have caused. I'm sure the dealer will be most creative in discovering all sorts of additional related problems ...
