Oil Filler Cap

What am I doing wrong here? My oil filler cap will not come off the tube and I end up taking both out to fill the oil. Do I simply need to lube the threads?

Clean and lube. If that doesn't solve it a new cap will likely square you away. The plastic seems to shrink abit causing it to bind

If you had your oil changed someplace it is very likely they over tightened the cap. Happens to me when I don't change the oil. Remove whole unit, use strap wrench on tube and large pipe wrench on cap and they will come apart.

Oil filler cap too tight, stuck on.

Yes, indeed. Now, do as I did, once I got cap off, don't ever fully tighten it again, and if you have someone change your oil, tell them to leave it for you to put back on. DO THIS: Tighten it fully, but not overly so, then loosen it a turn or two, and always do that whenever you, or anybody else takes it off, or you, once again, will have same problem you are now confronted with.

Ok, I think I have been overtightening it. I will Get 'em apart, clean lube and stop over tightening it.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I had to "slightly" heat up the tube with a heat gun to get the filler cap unstuck.

I just made an effort to over tighten the tube and then the cap was not an issue

I bought a strap wrench, went out to fix it, and the SOB twisted right off.

Typical :dunno:

I'm probably speaking the obvious, but when you get the cap off the tube just be careful to not overtighten it again. Its only purpose is to keep dirt and debris from getting into the engine. A light touch is all that's needed to tighten it.
