Default Oil pump failure?

My 2001 disco oil light came on while driving to work yesterday and began to have a tapping sound like a lifter,so I pulled into a parking lot and got my son to come pick me up with his trailor,I started the disco to drive it on the trailor fearing the worst and the light was off and the tapping gone.I told my son to follow me home about 20mi and if it happens again we would trailor it,but the light stayed off and no noise.Today I had off work so I drove it around locally to see if it would happen again and after about 4mi and sitting at a red light the oil light came on again and the tapping began about 10 seconds later.I shut it down, ate lunch there waiting for my wife then went out and started it and all was well again so I got the wife to follow me home with no problems. It has 97,xxx mi and the oil level is full and all services are up to date.Is this the pump going out are possibly just a clogged oil passage?

The oil light will indicate low oil pressure. So it is either your pump or an oil passage is blocked like you said. You can check the pressure with a gauge if you wish. You are dealing with a problem that will end in tears and a very large hole in your wallet if it is not taken care of soon. So get it fixed asap.
