P0306 dii
 

Hello,
I have an '04 with 45k. Today the engine started to miss. Pulled it in the dark garage and saw the blue haze near #6. Popped in the reader and confirmed by P0306 code.
Just for grins, changed the plug - problem remains. I know I will need to replace the plug wires however I was not planning an extended wrenching/maintenance session until the Thanksgiving break.
Any way to swap just that wire quickly until I have time to swap them all?

Could fill the spark plug boot with dielectric grease and put it back on and see if it stops your laser light show. Then you could limp along on it but you need to change your plug wires and do your full major service as soon as you can to ensure your truck continues to perform well. low miles for a 04!

You need to start with new 8 mm silicone wires like STI or Magnacors and a good set of plugs.
Although your mileage is very low, you should consider doing my major service list post on a sticky at the top of this section cause your fluids ar 9 years old, and don't fotget your front drive shaft.

Actually planning all that including the front d-shaft.
Today, when I pulled the boot, some black dust fell out. I clean inside the boot with contact cleaner and what came out was black; took four cotton swabs before it was clean. I'm certain the wire is toast. Is this the easy wire to replace or am I going to have to go all in before I had planned to do so?

The wires are kind of a pain to change but you should do all at once and not have to do them again for a long time! And yeah it sounds like its toasted, in some degree it harder on some parts of a vehicle to sit vs being used. Let me know when your ready to order a front drive shaft i would love to have your business.

Update---
I know it is not the forward thing to do however I knew #6 was on the top side of the coil pack and I wanted a test run for a complete wire swap. Long story short; #6 swapped and running great. Why in the %#€£¥<<|?$&@ would anyone place a coil pack there when it coul be anywhere??? Sorry for the rant but ?!)($&@;#}%. I must remain calm and carry on.
Pondering the entire swap over vodka...
