no i did not remove the tire from the wheel,,,,no point
i had the wheels off the rig. i washed em in soapy water. dried them and then rubbed down with a alcohol wipe. let air dry then sprayed with flat black ( 3-4 coats) and then clear wheel sealer/paint.
since i am one of the only people in seattle's metro area that actually off road their rover my wheels have been beat up since i took ownership of the rig. at some point i will get steels or 16" alloys but for now i just wanted to clean up the gouged, pitted, and scratched stock 18"s i have. besides once summer is here they will just get messed up again and i will doing it again

Well... first I had to take all 4 wheels off and then have the tires removed at a local tire shop. I then used a friend's truck to take the wheels to the powdercoater. Waited 3 days (they are fast and good!), picked up the wheels, had the tires re-installed, put the wheels back on.
I always use Steel Coatings in SLC, UT for powdercoating. They have a quick turnaround and do excellent work. I've used the same place for motorcycle parts for years. Anyway, for 4 wheels and 20 lug nuts they charged me $275.00.
If you do it, be sure to tell the powdercoater NOT to spray the back of the wheel where it fits onto the hub...it's a really close tolerance and the added thickness of the powder will make it almost impossible to re-install the wheel. I found this out the hard way...I spent about an hour with a dremmel removing all the powder from inside the hub seat on each wheel.

They look good man. I am going to be doing mine here in the next month or so because mine were dipped in chrome and now it is peeling off and looks like all hell. Anyone know of a sand/media blaster i can borrow/rent(for beer) in the seattle area? Or a place that would blast them for me for cheap because i got to get the rest of the chrome off before i can paint them.
