PS ACE Fluid - Synthetic?
 

Sorry if this is a repeat question. I searched the forum without satisfactory results. I have found that my 01 DII burns up the ACE fluid in 9-11 months. Changing this hard to find and expensive fluid so often seems absurd. Is there a good alternative to the mineral oil based fluid? IE:Redline royal P? Can this fluid be exchanged for a longer lasting synthetic alternative?

You should find your leak and fix it, in the mean time use pennzoil/valvoline/Napa dino fluid and flush it out once a year. I'm sure amsoil or redline makes a suitable synthetic fluid it is just a matter of finding it or ordering it.

fill it up and add some dye. works alot easier to see a leak with dye.

I hope you are not buying the ACE fluid from the dealer, all it is is standard power steering fluid that you can buy anywhere.

Those bottle are funny, $15 for 16 ounces.

For what its worth I use the genuine stuff.

How about because that is what I offered to do for him, along with the fact that I am still trying to figure out if he is burning or leaking fluid, so questions back and forth make it easier to help him.

Fairenough Mike, but it "reads" like you was going to give him an alternatice fluid to use (like its a secret... see my point ?

WIth ref to the fluid itself, theres lots of posts all over the world of forums ref this fluid, and as yet I have not read ANY conclusive arguements / discussions as to a suitable alternative, granted people use "other" stuff, but they cannot be sure its the same, hence because it does not hold much, I stick to the genuine stuff.

Would be nice if chevron themselves listed one.

Up to now, I have run Vavoline's synthetic p/s fluid along with 1/2 bottle of Lucas's p/s additive and this has really worked well for me, no p/s or ACE noise and the ACE does not over heat and throw warning lights any more.
I am now looking for a replacement fluid and will probably go to Royal Purple in the future.
