Pulse Dampener and purge valve???

What is the difference between the pulse dampener and the purge valve?? Very curious to know.

Usually a pulse dampener is a device on the fuel rail to help control pressure and volume. Kind of like a water hammer arrestor in plumbing.
I don't know if rovers even have them. Some of the newer Hondas had them (newer to me... ten years ago).

The purge valve is a control device for evap emissions. It allows fuel vapor to be "purged" into the intake to allow it to be burned.

@ jafir

Thanks much for the info...Would any of these devices contribute to an annoying engine noise heard from the interior of the vehicle while its in acceleration mode?

I got a P0440 DTC code...What could it be? Is it a simple fix? What exactly (part) would need to be replaced? Any help is appreciated!!
