Purchasing 2003 Land Rover Disco 4.6L

I am currently looking at some 2003 Land Rover Discovery's, I don't know much about them and was wondering what are some things to look for... should I get it or not. Ive heard so many good things and quite a few bad things as well.. I am currently looking at a 03 Disco with 4.6 L its black.. Guy says it leans a little to the right. and thinks its the air shock/bag blown or messed up... He says it may have over stretched its reach??? and it fell apart.. How hard to install a new shock? Could I do it myslef? I have a some mechanical experience.. Looked at 1 today with a major lifter problem.. Im just having some second thoughts about them... Please help me out, this is my dream vehicle I love the way it drove other than the lifter.. I live in Owensboro Ky and nearest dealer or mech. is about 4 hrs away.. Just going through some thoughts and options.. I was also wondering if I get a 02 are the motors better (4.0 verses the newer 4.6) or what. also if I get the older one (00-02) can I get headlights for a newer one (03-04) and install them on the older Rover?

Good job about asking on here:
A) Check the vin number because the O3 year had a oil pump issue on certain vin's, see if they replaced the motor because LR recalled them.
B) Do not buy the one with the lifter sound. I think it sounds like a oil psi issue or something that has destroyed the motor.
C) It seems the 4.6L has more slipped sleeve issues than the 4.0L.
D) If you get the side panels (fenders) for a 03-04 you can convert to the newer head lights. You might need to spice the wires in though. I know people have done it.
E) Do you plan on doing off roading with this? If so you want either a 04 or 1999-mid 2001 model year because you can add a CDL cable. 02-03 didn't put the nut on the transfer case.
I have a 2000 and I love it.
Good luck! Just make sure you find a near perfect one and not one that is a night mare.
Oh and get a pre purchase inspection from a LR shop before you buy it!
