QUESTION ABOUT 3AMIGOS on a 2003 SE7 W/ SLS
 

So here's the situation, I have a fairly clean 2003 SE7 with the optional SLS. It works flawlessly. Cycles right on, does not deflate or settle overnight, ever. Drops and raises with controls as required.

The 3 amigos are on, and my wrench tells me it's not the usual ABS module ( he's fixed several for me in the past). He indicates that is a separate / different module because it has SLS on it, and that he'd been trying to locate one without results. Sounds hokey. Is that the case ? Is there some sort of module related to the SLS , and if so, why does it duplicate the same 3-amigos dash warning as the more common faulty ABS module ?

If you're asking if the ABS and SLS are part of the same ecu module, yes they are; the SLABS unit. Every D2 has one, sb able to get one from a yard or ebay. Is your guy a Rover specialist? I would ask him why he thinks it needs one. It could be a wheel speed sensor or a wiring issue. Has "option B" been done to the ABS pump and still 3 amigos?

I agree you should ask why he thinks it needs a new "module." I suppose it's not impossible, but in my nine years on this and other forms I have never heard of a defective SLABS (Self-Leveling and ABS) control module.

If it turns out it does need a different SLABS, there is no difference between the slabs in a truck with SLS versus one without SLS. The only difference is a setting, accessible by a diagnostic computer, that can be toggled on or off depending upon whether or not the truck has SLS. Perhaps your mechanic does not have the right equipment to change that setting.

SLABS unit controls all that, 99-04 = SLABS unit is the same minus the firmware revision. Settings are done via a T4, Hawkeye, or Nanocom type scantool/programmer.

With the 3 Amigo's you are honestly wasting time with guessing what it is. You MUST have a LR Specific scantool or programmer to read the ABS Fault codes and then once you get the codes diagnosing the problem becomes much much easier!

SLS fault = orange SLS indicator light, 3 Amigo's = TC/ABS/HDC indicator lights on.

Do Option B first because it's basically free. It's just one ground wire. Took me 15 minutes to follow the steps in the Option B link in my signature below. I'd never done it before and I did it in the dark, which is to say that it is easy to do.

Then disconnect your red battery cable and charge your battery fully.

At this point your problem is likely solved, but if not then you will want to read your OBD2 codes. Those codes might even indicate that your SLABS needs replacing. Plenty of working SLABS for sale on eBay for cheap.
