Rang Rover ECU in Dscovery

I have heard that the 1996 Rang Rover 4.0 has the same engine as the 1996 disco. I have also heard that if I put a 1996 Rang Rover ECU in my disco i will get more power and fuel economy. Is it true that they detuned the disco to make the rang rover look better?

I doubt it. LR uses the same engine no matter what. The 3.9, 4.0, 4.6, 4.2 are all the same engine. Same block different displacement. They all use the GEMS engine magenment too. So I would say that all is the same. The RRC is heavier and slower than a Disco.

Spike you have it backwards,, the RRC unlike the Disco is all aluminum.

The RRC hood is steel, the DI roof is steel, the rest of the trks is aluminum. DII's have a steel roof and doors. If I am totally wrong then somebody please enlighten me.

When the Disco first came on the scene this was true, if the same motor was used.

Land Rover did not want to take away from the Range Rover however by the time the Disco's came to the U.S. this was no longer the case as the U.S. market was seen as power hungry and was needed to keep up with the other trucks.

Ok, so the DI is heavier than a RRC.

I'm a gear head and a history buff.

The history is the easy part I have seen so much of it.

I knew the RRC and DI used the same driveline, and every RRC that I drove was slower than a DI. But that was my experiance.
