Default rear brake pad change

Calling on everyone's expertise once again. I know I'm not the brightest crayon in the box but I'm at least mechanical enough to change my rear brake pads...I think, well at least with the help of the rave manual and all of you. The last time I changed my front pads the calipers were frozen and I spent a little more than I wanted and now its time to do the back.

Can anyone walk me through this process having done it them selves, and what are the best to use, oem, advanced, a.b. ?

Thanks all

Take what learned from working on the fronts and apply it to the rears. It is very easy if you have the confidence and a little know how. I would suggest a google search. Look for how to's w/ pictures. Videos are also good. There is no tricks really.

Two 12mm bolts for each caliper, remove caliper, remove pads, carefully and slowly reset piston using the proper tool or use the c-clamp and old pad process. Either way go slow. You'll do fine. We're here if you need us. You got this!

I like Akebono pads.

While depressing the brake cylinder in the caliper with a c-clamp, open up the bleed screw. This really helps when pushing it back in. Makes sort of a mess though. I do this to all my cars now though... Mainly because of the advanced ABS systems they have. I've heard and read its not good for them to have fluid sent back up the line.

If I do it this way do I still need to take the cap off the brake fluid expansion tank while depressing the calipers? Or does opening up the bleed screw eliminate it the need to.

To answer your last question, no you don't. Who's pads are you going to be using?
Don't forget to do a full 2 quart flush of the system using DOT 4.

I think I am going to use auto zone or advanced for the pads
How many bottles of dot 4 will I need, does the rave show me how to flush the system or can I Google the proper way?

Mike what's the best way to do a full system flush. I'm planning on doing my rear pads also. What method do you suggest. Also my BMW 740i has sensors that need to be replaced when the pads wear past a certain level, does my 04 disco SE have these also?
