Rear/Cargo door hinges
 

Sadly on Tuesday I had a couple coworkers in my disco, and one of them put something in the back and didn't shut the door tight. Pulling out of the parking lot, the door swung open. The two hinges bent.

I was able to get the door closed by loosening up on the bottom hinges bolts and then just slightly loosened the top hinges bolts so I could at least close the door and lock it.

My question is, can I simply get a new set of hinges and plop them on? What are the chances of having other damage such as the door frame being bent or the actual car frame being bent?

My indy rover mechanic said a new set of hinges should do it, but a couple of auto body guys said there is likely a lot more damage. I don't really believe the latter, but just wanted your opinions.

From the looks of it, only the hinges got bent, as there is no paint nicks or anything else on the rest of the door.

Sounds like you need the hinges no matter what. I'd buy them, put them on, and see if that's it. If not, then visit the body shop.

And you might check with Paul Grant, Will Tillery, or Marty and see if anyone has some good, used hinges. I think there are some other used parts guys on discoweb too you can try.

Thanks for the input. I found a couple salvage yards that will ship the hinges for less than $70 for the pair. Not bad at all. Just trying to find one in my color if at all possible. If not, no biggie... just spray em black and put them on

Anyone else have an opinion on damage?

Get the new hinges.
For the future, consider attaching a nylon rope to the door and the frame.
I may do that.

Yes, do try the hinges.
If they do not fix the problem.

Then
You will need to remove the door and hinges.
Get a large thick steel bar.
Drill holes into it and mount it like a hinge.
Then bend the door frame to where it was.

Same with the door.
You can get it back to where it was with careful observation and finesse.

You may want pictures from an undamaged DISCO.

My hinges bent once too. I had girls riding in the back cargo area and they claim they didn't do anything but I think they were full of crap. You don't have to buy new ones if you dont want to. I put my hinges in a vise and was able to bend them back to spec.

Thanks for the replies. Got the new hinges on order from a salvage yard (even got them in my color!) for $70 for the pair. Will put them on and hopefully get everything aligned correctly and a nice snug fit.

Hi, I wanted to let you know that just yesterday after opening the back door,it just wouldn't close ! I did nothing to cause the back door hinges to bend. I had opened the back door while on a incline,thats it!
Being a parent , I'd of thought the same.

i got an entire door at a local junk yard for $100. glass and everything. electric lock on it didnt work though. just another idea is all.
