Rear crankshaft seal

Hi all,

The parts for my rebuild should be here on Tuesday and I was just reviewed the workshop manual for torque settings and sequences, etc. looking at the rear main seal, I see LR indicates that special tools are required. Is this true? Are there alternatives to these tools if they are required?

If the stars align I'm going to pull the old engine out on Saturday and spend the rest of the day transferring the required bits over. Wish me luck!

Thanks for any help....

Anything?

Going off memory, the two "special" tools consist of a cone type thing that fits over the crankshaft end to guide the installation of the new seal lip over the edge of the crank, the other tool is a seal driver that sets the seal into place. I always used them when I worked at the dealer (because they were there) but I've seen others do it without them and think that if a person is careful it can be done. (other manufacturers I've worked for didn't have these tools and the procedure was the same). HTH

Thanks! I'll be careful and hopefully all will be well...
