Rearended!!!!

So, I was at the beach for a week with the Mrs and the boy...just came home today.

On Monday, on the way to go surf fishing with my family, got rear ended by a woman in a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. So, she destroyed my hitch cover, bent my spare tire holder so that the bolts aren't perpendicular to the ground now, they stick out, and the rear door isn't closing super well (it wasn't great before). Surprisingly, no bumper damage. The front of her Jeep (if you can call it a Jeep) was beat to **** and all torn up. No damage to the outside or spare mounting bolts on my door and no cracks, pulls or dents in my bumper.

I'm going to try to get the insurance company to just give me a check for the estimate amount and I'll fix it myself and pocket the rest.

So, question...where would be a good place to find a spare tire holder? Is there anything specific that I should check for and try to get from the Adjuster? I am not feeling great about the wheel and might try to get them to add the cost of a new on into the estimate since it was whacked pretty good. As far as the rear door closing, it's a little sticky and slow to close; might be sagging just a hair but it's hard to tell. Would new hinges be a fix, or do I need an all new door?

I would post a picture, but it'd be a waste of time...you can't tell that it was hit at all besides my jacked up hitch cover (:( I really liked that) and the top of the spare leaning away from the vehicle instead of square to it.

Any input or info from shop guys or folks that have gotten mashed up would be helpful. Thanks fellas!

Get the tire holder from a junk yard and take yours to the scrap yard for a few bucks.
I want to see pics of her Jeep.
Usually the adjuster will cut you a check, minus the labor for getting it fixed.
Otherwise you can take it to one of their authorized shops and let them do all the work and insurance will pay for it all.
Thats what I did with my headliner, give me $600 and I take care of it myself or let the shop do it for $1200.
I let the shop do it.
Headliner alone was $900.

The work would be just putting new bolt on parts on, no body work. I'd much rather do it myself. When someone hit my Valiant last year (1965), the other driver's insurance company just gave me a check for the body work estimate and I did it myself. I'd love that now. I'm worried about the hinges vs. rear door. The door is a high dollar item and the hinges are probably dirt cheap. I was hoping for a **** ton of cash. :( That's probably not going to happen.

I think its just the hinges.
Have you lubed the door stay on the bottom of the door? That will make it hard to close.
I dont think you are going to get a huge payday.

jljde,
Well, Let's count this one as a "survived it" incident.
For, my friend, all that is damaged is a bolt on part.
I would remove the spare tire part and get a picture of a good one and unbend it and put it back on.

Or, put the tire on and use your feet to kick the tire the way it needs to go.
You may end up reversing the damage.

The previous owner of my D2 was rear ended.
Somehow, this made the exhaust pipe go back a bit and it was rattling against a frame bolt.

Got some metal rope.
Tied it to the pipe and other end against a street lamp base in a Target parking lot.

The rope snapped.
But, the pipe pulled out - actually unbent - about 5mm and that was enough for the noise to go away.

You can play games like this and try to unbend bent parts.

Call Paul Grant, he has the spare tire carrier and for a decent price.

Thanks for the advice Mike.

Spike, I think I'll just use these links as a reference and tell the adjuster what I'll need money-wise. I can get the parts cheaper, especially used, but I'm not taking it somewhere to have them bolt on something that I can bolt on myself for cheaper.

Thats what I would do too.

Darn jeeps keep doing harm to land rovers... they can't out perform us so they have to cheat.

So, he gave me $578 and said to take pictures as I go and call if I discover something broken that I need more money for.
