replacing ignition switch

The ignition switch needs to be replaced in my Disco I.
Should I attempt to replace the ignition switch? Is it relatively easy to do for a newbie like me to do?
It needs to be replaced because from time to time when I turn the key to start the engine, nothing would happen. I turn it again and the engine wouldn't start at all. The car was just running a few minutes ago, mind you. My mechanic said the ignition switch is going bad.

Any input is alway welcome.

RE: replacing ignition switch

They can be changed. someone on here has done it before. There are 2 antitheft bolts holding it in. I think he got plires to twist out the bolts, but otherwise you have to drill them. Other than that, I think it was pretty easy..

Good Luck. Oh, and take all of the extra keys and junk off your keychain. Just the remote and ignition key. The more you have dangling from the switch, the harder it is on it.

This may help, it is from a RR, but might offer insight on the workings of the switch. I think it is a similar switch, just mounted below instaed of on top... http://www.jpurnell.com/rr/repairs/IgnitionSwitch.htm
