Roof Rack
I know Rovers are expensive and so are parts and acessories. But I just cannot get myself to spend the insane amounts of money it takes to get a Discovery roof rack. I will use it maybe one a year. I just need something simple. Does not need to extend the whole length of the roof or have special hook ups for lights. I just need something that will hold a second spare tire, something I can tie a shovel to etc for those special long trips. Any suggesstions?

RE: Roof Rack
I don't have any personal experience, but have read about Surco racks. They are relatively inexpensive...considering the alternative you mention, but you can add lights, tire mount, jack and shovel mount, etc.

Durable black powder paint finish protects its good looks from scratches and scrapes. All-aluminum construction will not rust. Some assembly required. Here's another, full size this one: Note that the mounting brackets are not included, and would cost approx. $300.00 on top of the Rack, but again, all aluminum construction which means light weight and no rusting. And much cheaper than others. RE: Roof Rack
I have a Surco 50" x 50" that I got from Atlantic Britishfor my '04 Disco II. It was easy to build and easy to mount. Even easier with a helper! Very strong. Highly recommended. JF

RE: Roof Rack
I bought a Kargo Master 52" x 60" and used Yakima Hi-rise gutter brackets and bars. However, even though the Yakima catalog says they fit a Discovery I had to do some retooling on them withmy 4 1/2 inch welders grinder so they would not rub the side of the roof or the back windows.
The rack is very light and also strong, it's a mixture of aluminum and steel. I bought mine from 4 Wheel Parts via the Interent and had it shipped to a store near me and paid no shipping costs. Here is what one looks like: http://www.realtruck.com/php/waterma...ct&id=1918 |
