Roof Rack Crossbars

Is there a special tool or key to remove the roof rack cross bars on a D2? On my old D1 you could just reach up and slide a locking tab back with your thumb. On the D2, it looks like it it is locked into place, and the owners manual doesn't say anything about them, other than that you can buy them from your dealer.

Thanks,

If you get up above the crossbars, you will notice tab-handle to release the bar clamps. there is one on either end of the crossbar. The handle is recessed into the bar. I has a round insert with two indents in it. That is the lock. You can get a key for it from the dealer or use a pair of needle nose pliers and put the tips of the pliers in the holes and turn either 90 or 180 degrees, I don't recall. Once unlocked, lift the handle and the jaws of the clamp will release. Push it down and it will clamp in place. You can clamp them into place without locking them if you prefer. They work will but it can be a pain to find attachments to fit the wide bars. You may need to buy a Yakima or Thule adapter for attachments. Good luck. Phil

Thanks. That's what it looked like, but I figured I'd ask. I plan on just removing them. They make a lot of wind noise recently.
