Rough running when hot - '03 Disco
 

My 2003 Disco with 80k on it runs great on a cold start. Idles even, plenty of power and will stay that way even when hot until I shut it off. Then intemittently after a warm restart, it will idle unevenly and run with a little less power. Had a dealer do a full 60k service at 75k. They changed the plugs but did not change the wires. I plan on doing this myself hoping this will remedy the problem. I have cleaned the IAC valve, the throttle body and the MAF. Is there something else I'm missing? I.E., is there something else that could be causing this problem besides the spark plug wires? I did notice the same kind of problem with my two previous high mileage Range Rovers (they had the 4.0 engine). I do a lot of short start/stop driving around the Marina where I live. Not a lot of high speed freeway driving. Could this be a contributing factor?

80k is not high mileage.
Sounds like you need new plug wires.

Why did you clean your MAF??????????????????
Plan on buying a new one and this time stay away from it without asking first, cleaning a Bosch MAF fries them.
Order a set of 8 mm Magnacor wires at the same time and you will be fine.

Will be ordering the magnacor wires and installing. Curious about the MAF. It ran noticably better after I did it. I had the hot uneven running issue before I cleaned the MAF. But since I cleaned the MAF it made the cold starts and initial running better. To clean it I actually removed the MAF from the housing and lightly sprayed it with MAF cleaner. I let it dry for three hours, then reinstalled and it ran better. Are you absolutely sure it's fried, Mike? If so, I'll get a new one. Thanks for the help.

Well, when you run out of options, you may want to replace it. Nearly every Rover Forum on-line will mention about not cleaning MAF's from D2's just for this reason.
Are you showing any fault codes at all?

No fault codes so far. I found the Factory MAF only without the housing at Miami Rover for $120. I may go ahead and try it as I am reluctant to buy the OEM-like versions on ebay for 90. If it doesn't change anything, I spose it doesn't hurt to have a spare.
