Sluggish, popping, stalling....fun

96 Disco, 89,xxx miles.

I have been having a ping/rattle issue that seemed to be clearing up with the use of premium fuel and lucas fuel addative.

Last sunday I took the rover for a ride, shut it off and it was hard to start.

Today I took it to work, no problems. On the way home all heck broke loose.

It started acting very sluggish, popping and would run very rough. I pulled off the road and put the trans in neutral, reved it a few times and it reved fine. Put it in gear and get 20 feet and it started all over again. Popping, won't rev and it stalled once. Surprisingly it restarted... I limped it home about 5 miles and here we are.

I'm thinking fuel pump or MAF but looking for advice..

Fuel filter has been changed atleast once ( I found a reciept ) and it has just a hair below 1/4 tank of fuel.

Fuel pump is where I would start. Check your pressure. Doesn't sound like MAF to me. Any codes?

sounds like the VSS. its common in D1's

Do you have any fault codes? Don't go throwing parts at it on a guess.
I agree that the VSS is a possibility. When was it last tuned with wires and are you always running high test, if not you should be.

A bad fuel pump at only 89,000 miles? I dont think so, mine lasted into the 180's.

When was the fuel filter changed? Just because you have the receipt does not mean it was recent.
Go to Wal-Mart and buy one, its $15.

I changed the plugs & wires about two weeks ago and have been using sunoco premium fuel after using a tank of mid grade. I have a code scanner and checked for codes when the ping/rattle issue started a month ago. I got some that I will post in a minute. I cleared them (I thought) and when I checked tonight again they are still in there. I really don't know if I am reading them correctly though... My scanner has two lines, the first is the code and the second appears to be a date or is it maybe the number like 1 of 7?

Here is what it says:
P1194
01/07
P1191
02/07
P0300
03/07
P0304
04/07
P0310
05/07
P1316
06/07
P1313
07/07

Your scanner nor the truck knows what the date is, hell, as far as your truck knows it is 1930 and you live on the moon.
Those are the sequence numbers of the codes, so you have seven codes.

Walmart has fuel filters for LR's? My Wife is enroute there right now, I'll have her check..

Thanks for the replies..

Yes, the DI takes just a plain old standard inline fuel filter.
My Wal-Mart sells them, they are Fram.
I do not know the part number, but she can look it up in the filter book.

P0300 = Misfire On Multiple Cylinder

P0304 = Misfire Cylinder 4

P0310 =

P1313 = Misfire Catalyst Damage Fault Bank A

Your codes are showing mutiple misfires and damage to both the O2 sensor & Cat - on the passenger side.
