Default Mystery Part

When I bought my 2003 Discovery a couple of years back, it had this part in my center console. I've held onto it ever since thinking that it might be something critical, but I can't seem to identify what it is or if I need it. It's a black disk about as big as a drink coaster. It has a bar code and "P-7807 A060212" below the bar code. It says "TIRIS technology by Texas Instruments" above the bar code and "RI-TRP-W9UR" under the blue CE letters at the bottom. I'm trying to attach an image. Any guesses?

Here is the IT link for the part http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folder...nicaldocuments . There is a PDF that you can download from that page that explains it's various applications, but in regards to the rover, I have no idea what it does though!?

That is a transponder. Do you have a toll road in your area that allows you to automatically pay toll fees? If not, it was probably used at the prior owners place of employment for entry into a secured parking garage.

Yeah thats not a Disco part.
Where is your truck from?
My wifes Volvo is from NJ and it has a toll booth transponder attached to the drivers "A" pillar.
I figure that we are good to go if we ever go to NJ.

Nice! I knew I could count on people in the landroverforums universe to tell me what it is. I've been afraid to throw it out thinking that later I would figure out that it would have made my Disco get 24 mpg (snort)/was worth thousands of dollars/ was critical to national defense.
No toll roads here. I think the truck came out of California, I bought it from an ebay seller here that buys them at auction and resells them. In fact, I think the truck was once a rental, so maybe they used it to track it in some way.
