Spewing Tranny fluid
So I sprung a leak at the tranny cooler line at the radiator. I'm guessing its puking out at the connection to the cooler. Is there a common failure point here that I can investigate? It only seems to be leaking when the truck is in gear as I didn't notice any fluid loss when idling in park and I wasn't willing to put it in drive and run along side it lol.
So if I need a new line, is the only way to replace this lowering the transmission down? Has anyone found a better way to do this? |
Yes, and take photos when you have to replace it, as mine has been doing the same thing :)
Be careful to inspect your radiator as well, as the fluid can spray the radiator and block it. I would have replaced it already if it weren't such a PITA to get to. |
Mine is leaking enough that it won't get driven until it's repaired. I'm planning a flat bed ride home from work.
I'll be sure to de-grease the radiator as well thanks for the tip. Figures there is a cold snap coming and I'm back in the 110 lol |
Mine leaves a few drips overnight. It's not awful, but I know I'll need to replace it.

so that yes was the tranny does have to come down to get the line out? can you just lower it on the mounts or does it have to come out?

As a FYI for anyone leaking up in the drivers front corner, make sure you check your oil cooler lines for the leak. Luckily PTSchram gave me a heads up.
I know the fluid color should be a dead give away but with all the muck coming off the truck where it was leaking down the color of the fluid was difficult to determine. So I blocked off the oil cooler ports all it takes is 2 20mmx1.5 oil pan drain plugs $4.00 each and a couple of small crush washers and you are good to go. |
I ran into this problem when i had to replace my radiator. The swivel point on the "quick connect" (don't get me started on the quick part of that word) seems to be the weak link. Anyways i didnt have to remove the tranny just drop it down to get the new line in. Still a pain in the ass.

Thanks, I'm praying I never have to do it...
